Ranger is making the old comeback. Its received a slight energy buff (more still needed) and the Raptor does a lot more damage. The wolf and boar both got cosmetic upgrades, but you won’t be using them in raids.
Pros: High mobility, high single-target damage, easy rotation
Cons: Completely reliant on pet, mediocre AOE, no utility
The nice thing about Ranger is that you don’t have to stop moving to deal damage all the time like you do with MM. This makes the spec a lot more mobile. Otherwise it is played mostly like MM, but with pet management. Unlike Sab, you have a priority system, not a rotation, and a macro can handle most of it.
#show Shadow Fire
cast Feral Aggression
cast Shadow Fire
cast Splinter Shot
cast Piercing Shot
cast Crippling Shot
cast Quick Shot
petcast Rend
petcast Bloodied Blow
petcast Razor Lash
Rapid Fire Shot and Head Shot are your finishers. You can take Quick Shot out of the macro if you want to keep the DoT going manually, but I really find it to be a negligible DPS gain for a lot of extra staring at that specific debuff.
For AOE, you’ll use Trick Shot on up to 4 mobs, and Rain of Arrows for more than that, but in truth, you don’t want to be using this spec on AOE heavy fights.
Otherwise it is played pretty much like MM, but no purge or interrupt. You can however pop Diffuse to sacrifice your pet as a shield if you get in a jam.
Update: Many of you posted that 15MM is better than 10MM/5RS. I tested it and you’re absolutely right. Updated accordingly.
read your abilities mister, ranger absolutely has an interrupt, concussive blast is an interrupt. and your spec is bad. 51rng/15mm, or 14mm/1rs. electrified munitions…
You may be right. I’ll be testing today. EM doesn’t do much damage with only 14 points in, but between that and RFS it could be worth the extra points.
As for Concussive Blast, that is not even close to a useful raid interrupt. It requires combo points, uses combo points and has a travel time. Just no. Consider it an AOE damage finisher, and thats it.
hey there!
thanks for all the info across your site. i’m writing you because the links seem to be broken. i get an error about it being “out of date”. any chance you can investigate for me? i’d love to get a look at the build.
much thanks,
Krichmar
Looks like he updated the site. I’ll redo them.
Let m eknow if 51/15 or your build is better.
Why do you incluide Shadow Fire on your macro? It’s a DPS loss!
With the Ranger crystal, using SF as much as possible is a DPS gain.
If u have the Preditory Greater Essence for +100 ap while Shadow Fire is active you now have a +100 ap buff as well as a +13% damages from ur abilities. Anyone that argues SF is a dps loss is either a complete idiot or knows nothing about the rogue ranged specs and should play another class.
Shadow Fire gives much more than 13% boost. In a 51 build it comes out to +50%. 13% + (1% x [51-14])
Math is hard, and so is reading tooltips.
Its actually somewhat less than that because % increases are additive not multiplicative.
Doing 51rng / 15 MM, with bard/beastmaster+tablet i put out about 3.2k dps on dummy.
If you ever know that you put 0point into RS is another dps loss
0 point RS is for the blink. I find that blink to be better than the marginal DPS of Virulent Poison.
I always love your work..Keep it up buddy =)
would assasin not be better with 0 point as poison weapon buff applys also to ranged only know this coz i use it with my bard
Hello- Just wondering why you include your pet macro after quick shot? a guildie and I tried this several times but it seems that the macro would finish at QS and never even get to the pet macro, simply because QS is instant. What I did was I tweaked a bit- I included the pet macro just before QS and its working a lot better.
Hey I would like to add that for the top dps in this build add instead of QS at the end of the macro have swift shot. Then have QS on a sepperate bar and make sure that the QS debuff is up at all times. It’s about a 500+ dps increase. Plus you get movement speed :D
