Nothing has changed with Old Standby, but its still our highest single target damage spec. This pony only has one trick, but its a good one.
Pros: Highest single target damage
Cons: Very poor AOE, no utility, requires melee range
This spec still has a difficult rotation and I strongly encourage you to get nkRebuff (or a similar add-on) if you’re going to try it. You need to track and keep the following buffs/debuffs active, in order of precedence:
Annihilation
Stalker Phase
Impale
Expose Weakness
Make sure Stalker Phase is up when you use a finisher, and only apply EW manually when you use Annihilation. Otherwise, apply EW with 5-point Assassin finishers. Don’t let Annihilation or Impale fall off, if you can possibly avoid it. The entire spec is really just a game of whack-a-mole with your buffs and debuffs.
Dunsparrow ive been following your site for quit some time now…true fan. but have a question about this spec…i use all the time in tank n spank bosses but i alsot roll with the HK sin crystal which applies EW on the target upon using finishers…whats your take on that?
Using Final Blow at 3-4 combo points depending on serrated blade depleting EW charges can be a DPS gain depending on your attack power. The crystal is a boost in itself, but there is room for further EW management beyond just letting the crystal do it automatically as you also have the option to taper your finishers and also apply it manually.
Yes, definitely use the Assassin crystal. Its a huge DPS gain. You really dont want to manually apply EW except when you refresh Annihilate. You also don’t want to use finishers with less than 5 combo points, because even though you gain some damage by increasing EW uptime, you will become energy starved and your damage will drop. Its better to use finishers only with 5 CPs.
cool thanks man! still pumpin’ out 3k+ dps! yeah sometimes i get trigger happy and notice hitting my finishers with 4cps vice 5 and yea it WILL starve the cap out of you!
With the pending Energy Regen changes being proposed, basically the effect of a Elder Tablet, should we consider finishing with 4 CPs?
